Each year the San Diego Track Club has a Grand Prix competition for its members in good standing. The series includes 8 to 10 races the club annually hosts, including road races, fun runs and cross-country challenges. Distances vary from 3 miles to 20k (12.6 miles). These events tend to be smaller and more informal, with affordable entry fees. There are no expos, shuttles, prize money or paid elite runners. Instead, we provide a safe, scenic venue where everyone from high school state champions and former Olympians to octogenarian marathoners are challenged and rewarded – some with age group awards; all with a great running experience.
How to Qualify
Grand Prix participants receive points based on their finishing place
relative to other runners in the race. To qualify for a Grand Prix
championship, you must:
- Be a current member of the club
- Complete at least 4 SDTC races in a season
- Volunteer 2 or more times for the San
Diego Track Club
How the
Ranking Works
Grand Prix prizes are awarded to the Top 3 in each 5-year age group.
Each runner will be recognized at the SDTC annual awards banquet,
usually held in November. Runners who enter a new age group
during the year are considered part of that new age group, provided
they competed in at least one race as an older runner, at the
end of the competition year.
How You Can
Volunteer
If you want to get your volunteer points, we have opportunities almost
every weekend of the year. In addition to helping out before, during or
after our SDTC races, we recruit aid station volunteers each Saturday
morning or our Rockin’ ‘n’ Runnin’ marathon training program and Half
Mad and Whatever half marathon training programs.
To volunteer for an upcoming SDTC race, contact the Volunteer Coordinator listed for a specific SDTC race in our Race Calendar . For the Rockin’ ’n’ Runnin’ program, which runs each weekend until June, contact Metro volunteer coordinator Hale Hashim at hala154[at]hotmail.com or North County VC Brian Burba at brianburba1029[at]yahoo.com.
Plan to
Participate
The Grand Prix series is a fun way to stay in shape year-round and
raise your race game, especially once the marathon training season ends
and new goals are needed for motivation. During each race in the
series, you’re surrounded by an inspiring field of competitors. Plan to
join us throughout the year to run in some of San Diego County's
prettiest places and among some of the best runners in our region and
beyond.
